Prepare your Business for the Holidays

Keep your Christmas holidays special for the right reasons by ensuring that your business has appropriate measures in place before you clock off for the break.

Follow this checklist to make sure you’re prepared for any eventuality:

1) Secure your office space

  • Keep your devices unplugged, locked away, and out of sight.
  • Store physical files in locked storage units.
  • Review your business’s access privileges to ensure no one has more access than necessary.
  • Confirm that exterior doors, windows, and other entry points are fully secured before the last person leaves.

2) Review your Security Equipment

  • Check that all security equipment is armed and functioning properly.
  • Ensure there are no Christmas decorations or displays obstructing your CCTV cameras or alarms.
  • Update your notification list so the intrusion alarm system service provider knows who to call in case of an emergency.

3) Maintain your cyber security

  • Log out of all devices to make it harder for potential thieves to access information.
  • Ensure that all your employees set up multifactor authentication.
  • Confirm that your cyber security software is up to date.
  • Have a solid backup strategy in place, and make sure your backups are current.
  • Designate someone within the IT department as a first responder in case of a problem.

4) Keep your stakeholders informed

  • Notify vendors, clients, and staff of the shutdown periods.
  • Have your staff reach out to clients to develop a plan for the closure period, including how to handle emergencies.
  • Provide clients with a contact number or address in case of an emergency.

Don’t let your well-deserved holiday be ruined by a security breach or emergency. Follow these steps to keep your business secured and prepared for any situation that may arise.
